Coming Home w/ Dr. Marian Jefferson

Primary Hyperparathyroidism: This Is My Story

Dr. Marian Jefferson

In 2016 I had a whole body scan at Duncanville's First Baptist Church, a predominately white church. Encouraged by a group of very health-conscious elderly women, I took this scan thinking it not only wouldn't find anything but it would be nothing more than a waste of time and money. Well, it's been seven years since that scan, and boy, was I wrong! In August of 2023, I ended up in the emergency room frustrated, stomach distended, in unimaginable pain. The ER doc was no help at all, but the tech that did my triage reminded me of something I told patients all the time who didn't feel heard or who expressed that the doctor didn't believe them. "You are responsible!"

It would be these words that lit a fire under me and prompted a renewed search for answers and finally a diagnosis of Primaryhyperparathyroid Disease for which there is only one cure.  This is my story.
